Why is Obesity happening?

Imagine this, you walk onto a plane, walk down the aisle and sit down in your allocated seat. Someone comes and sits beside you and takes up nearly 2 seats. You’re squished into the corner thinking why he doesn’t lose some weight. This happens to many citizens each year and is a growing concern in America. Some of the reasons Obesity is a huge health issue is because of people eating too much junk food; Not as active as they should be; and people aren't getting enough sleep. These all influence your weight and should be thought about carefully.

Firstly, Citizens in America are eating too much junk food which is affecting their weight. They are finding it is much cheaper and easier to go to a fast food outfit and purchase food rather that going to the supermarket and purchasing fruit and vegetables. But why wouldn’t you? Fast food is cheaper and easy while vegetables are expensive and time consuming. A study by Stephanie Stiavetti reveals how bad for you fast foods really are. They consume large amounts of sugar, salt, sodium, and Trans fat (2015).  All of these affect your blood pressure and can increase the chances of getting type 2 diabetes. People don’t think of these Health Affects therefore the reason more and more people in America are gaining weight and becoming obese.

Secondly, Citizens in America are really falling behind on how much exercise they do each day. They make excuses saying they have no time to fit exercise into their daily schedule. With Work or school and social time, it doesn’t come easy. You have to make time in which to exercise otherwise you’ll forget about it. A study by Huffpost healthy living reveals how much of a problem 41% of American citizens go through each day. They don’t get the daily recommended exercise therefore the reason more and more people in America are gaining weight and become obese (2012). Another study from Maria Hagan reveals that Bangladesh is the most active country for exercise with only 10% don’t exercise enough. Bangladesh citizens are exceptionally active due to the country’s primary industries which require physical labour (2014).

Lastly, Citizens in America aren't getting enough sleep. Think about it? You’re feeling a little sleepy at work, so you drink a cup of coffee to wake you up and some slice for an energy buzz. After work you decide not to go to the gym because you to tired. You miss out on your daily exercise and grab some fast food because you’re too tired to cook. All of the unhealthy foods you have eaten throughout the day is bad for your diet. When you finally want to go to bed, you can't sleep because of all the high energy, unhealthy foods you have eaten. A study by NHS choices reveals all the dangers of not getting enough sleep. The dangers increase obesity, heart disease and diabetes and it also shortens your life expectancy.(2015) The study demonstrates that a solid night’s sleep can be essential for a long and healthy life.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why obesity is a growing concern in America such as eating junk food, not getting enough exercise, and not getting enough sleep. The country of America should be more like Bangladesh with America 41% (Huffpost healthy living, 2012) vs Bangladesh 10% (Hagen, 2013) citizens’ obesity rate. If American citizens keep going the way they are, the percentage of people will keep on rising and rising.
