America needs more gun control

Blacksburg Virginia, The Batman movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado and of course Sandy Hook elementary school in Newton, Connect[1]. If the reader is familiar with any of these places then the first thing that should come to the readers mind is the gun violence that’s currently happening in America. Every day in the United States over 280 people are shot, Barrack Obama has been trying hard to push through new gun regulation laws, the people in the United States that want tighter gun control laws are not saying that guns should be completely and out right banned and finally if the United States had something similar to what Switzerland has, the people in the United States that want tighter gun laws believe that the number of deaths caused by guns would rapidly decrease.
Firstly every day in the U.S., an average of two hundred and eighty nine people are shot. Eighty-six of them die, thirty are murdered, fifty-three kill themselves, two die accidentally, and one is shot in a police intervention[2]. So breaking it down further that means that every hour seven people are shot and just over three of them die[3]. This to the population of the United States of America that wants guns to have tighter gun laws, seems to be way to many people that are shot and killed every day due to guns, and they are not the only ones.

Secondly President Barrack Obama has been trying to push through some new gun control laws but unfortunately, the predominately republican senate will not allow it[4]. This is represented when President Barrack Obama said to the BBC "The United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense, gun-safety laws even in the face of repeated mass killings. If the reader looks at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it's less than 100. If you look at the number been killed by gun violence, it's in the tens of thousands. For us not to be able to resolve that issue has been something that is distressing."[5] This tells the reader that President Obama has being trying really hard to push through gun regulation laws but is having a really hard time trying doing it. Also it's becoming more distressing for him, as more people die.
Thirdly the people in the United States that want tighter gun laws are not saying that guns should be completely and out right banned. Because to be honest that is never going to happen in a gun mad country like the United States, who believe its their right to own a gun. They generally believe this because in the second amendment of the United States constitution, but what it’s actually for is so that they could keep a militia which is no longer needed in the current state that the country is in. Also after a Pew Foundation report found that 79% of male gun owners and 80% of female gun owners said owning a gun made them feel safer, and 64% of people living in a home in which someone else owns a gun felt safer[6]. But the population of America that is against gun what suggesting is that they introduce stricter gun control laws. For example Switzerland frequently cited as a country where widespread gun ownership makes people feel safer, has stricter gun regulations than the U.S. [7]

Finally The Swiss government has placed limits on gun ownership and makes gun owners renew their permits 14 times a year[8]. Also on top of that in Switzerland they frequently exercise their right to own guns. Yet, despite this Switzerland still has just over seven less gun related deaths per hundred thousand people every year then the United States of America[9]. This means that Americas gun related deaths per year is around thirty thousand[10]. The population of the United States that wants gun control that seems way too many. So in summary, with something similar to what Switzerland has, we as a society believe that America would be a lot safer and this alarming number of deaths per year would rapidly decrease.
In conclusion too many people die from gun related incidents every day of the year and despite how hard Barrack Obama has tried to persuade the American people that gun laws are a positive thing, he hasn't been able to do anything about it. Also the population of the United States that want tighter laws about gun control, is not saying that guns should be outright banned, they just believe that with tighter gun laws with something like what Switzerland has they think that the alarming number of deaths per year in the United States, would rapidly decrease.
